There is nothing quite like summer in the Kawartha Lakes of Ontario, Canada. Peaceful mornings watching soaring osprey as they search out their first meal of the day. Lazy afternoons with a cool drink in hand watching boats sail by. Sitting back in your favourite chair and watching as the sun slips beneath the horizon. Cozying up next to the campfire, roasting marshmallows and gazing in awe as countless stars reveal themselves in the night sky.

Bird’s Hill Hideaway is nestled on the south shore of Lower Buckhorn Lake, just a 5km drive from the village of Buckhorn in the heart of the Kawarthas. This comfortable, rustic cottage is the perfect spot to stay and enjoy all that the Kawartha Lakes have to offer.

THE COTTAGE

Bird’s Hill Hideaway is a comfortable and rustic three bedroom rental cottage located on Lower Buckhorn Lake in the Kawarthas. The cottage is conveniently located just 5 km outside of the village of Buckhorn, and Lock 31 on the Trent Severn Waterway.

The main living area of the cottage is open concept featuring natural  pine woodwork, vaulted ceilings and a covered deck overlooking the water. The sitting area features a comfortable couch, and two chairs to relax in after a busy day exploring all that the area has to offer. A TV and DVD player are provided for your enjoyment. The most unique feature of this room is wonderful wall of windows overlooking the lake. You cannot beat our sunset views!

Adjacent to the sitting area is the kitchen equipped with all the modern conveniences  stove, fridge, microwave and breakfast bar. An island provides additional space to prepare holiday feasts. A dining table in front of the windows facing the lake is located next to the kitchen, and can be expanded to seat ten.

Bird’s Hill Hideaway’s three bedrooms sleep up to 6 adults comfortably. The master bedroom features a comfortable queen size bed. The second bedroom features a double bed, and our third bedroom has bunk beds and a single bed. A clean and tidy three-piece bathroom with shower is located next to the master bedroom.

THE SURROUNDING AREA

The village of Buckhorn is only a short drive away and offers restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, convenience stores, a library, community centre, as well as Lock 31 where you can boat watch. There is a large grocery store (Foodland) and hardware store (Home Hardware) less than 10 minutes from the cottage.

The area is a dream for lovers of the outdoors with ample opportunity for hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing, hunting and adventure. Enjoy hiking on the Canadian Shield, paddling the waters of Lovesick Lake, or sunbathing on the sandy shores of  Wolf Island Provinicial Park. With so many options for exploration and enjoyment, you can make the most of your holiday in the Kawarthas!

For Boaters there Is a pay-per-use boat launch at Reach Harbour Marina.  From the cottage you can navigate westward by boat to Buckhorn or continue west through Lock 31 into Upper Buckhorn and travel to Pigeon lake and Bobcaygeon or to Bridge North on Chemong Lake. Navigating eastward from the cottage will take you to Burleigh Falls and Lock 30 east into Stoney Lake. Please refer to your charts.
